Once veganism was widely associated with only animal rights activists, the health conscious, and the religious; however, now more and more people are dabbling with a vegan diet. As of 2015 searches in Google have risen to 32% – imagine how high that number will be in 2016!!
More businesses have created vegan alternatives, and many stores are selling their products; restaurants are now providing vegan options, including big franchises such as Starbucks, P.F. Chang’s, and Moe’s. There are even pizza chains that include vegan cheese in their menu such as Mellow Mushroom, zpizza and Uncle Maddio’s. Numerous petitions have emerged prompting the government to create more legislation supporting animal welfare; others ask restaurants to start using cage-free eggs, free range chicken, etc. Many celebrities and athletes, such as Lea Michele, Beyonce, and Mike Tyson have tried the vegan diet; even some, such as Steve-O, Kristen Bell, and Dax Shepard have become ethical vegans, advocating for compassion towards farm animals. Multiple YouTubers, such as BiteSizeVegan and The Vegan Corner, have created channels solely about veganism. The vegan movement is even spreading globally; Gary Yourofsky has traveled to many countries doing lectures in colleges, and many people were moved by his speeches and have protested for veganism. I’m just so happy to announce that vegans no longer need to feel hopeless about their minority status – we are growing in number, so stay strong and keep spreading the love! ♡
