Devout Vegan, Senator Booker Defends Plant based Lifestyle to New York Times

We are huge Senator Cory Booker fans at Appetite For Peace, politics aside. He is a well respected vegan senator, which is not something you hear everyday. Senator Booker sounded off on Twitter after The New York Times implied that Americans would elect a black man but never a vegan.

In the recent recent Op-Ed article writer Sarah Vowell advised vegan New Jersey Senator Cory Booker to “start figuring out how to at least mime eating bratwurst” if he ever planned on sitting in the oval office. “It will be awhile before a vegan escapes the Iowa caucuses intact,” Vowell wrote.

Plant based Senator Booker took to Twitter and tweeted, “Funny she thinks it’s easier for [Americans] to elect a black man president than a vegan.” We are still shocked and excited to hear him speak out. The Senator’s huge fan base instantly responded with tremendously positive feedback, including the statement one one follower, “Please don’t stop being vegan; it’s better than being president.”

Prior to Tim Kaine’s nomination as Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Senator Booker was near the top of a very short list to be Hillary Clinton’s “VP,” to which Senator Booker responded, “I am already a vegan person.” Charismatic, bold, and vegan…we are impressed.  What are your thoughts on Senator Booker?
