Dairy milk takes a huge hit in sales, while almond milks sales have just been nuts. Based on a recent report by The Nielsen Company, (which is a food trend analyst) almond milk sales have surged by over 250 percent in the past five years.
Meanwhile, the total milk market went the udder way. Total milk sales plunged by $1 billion. In 2015, almond milk sales grew nearly 8%, which equates to the tune of $894.7 million in sales. Dairy milk sales dropped by seven percent, which is astronomical given the massive marketing dollars spent in the dairy industry.
Vegan beverage company Califia Farms CEO Greg Steltenpohl explained the shift in consumer shopping habits to Food Navigator that “a growing number of consumers are seeking a plant-based diet,” a statement that is supported by a recent survey from our friends at Veg News that reflects that half of omnivores are consuming plant-based alternatives for health, taste, and ethical reasons.
This is great news for consumers, and most of all for cows. Join the Mooo-vement; Have an Appetite For Peace.
