Last week, a young Franciscana dolphin was killed on a beach in Argentina as a consequence of severe dehydration and ‘rough handling’ by a crowd of eager tourists, reports The Dodo.
The animal was reportedly taken from the water along with another dolphin, so people could take photos with it. To make matters worse, Franciscana dolphins – found only in the waters of southeastern South America – are classified as a ‘vulnerable’ species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This is honestly such a horrible death. This just shows how some people can be so careless and selfish that they didn’t even stop to think about the poor animal being out in the hot sun and being deprived of oxygen all for a cool Instagram post or a fun tweet. We need to open our eyes; we need to realize how we’re caring more about ourselves than any other life around us – this needs to stop!
